Allergy Awareness

At Claydon High School we are committed to promoting a whole school approach to health care, welfare and the safe management of those members of our school community who live with specific allergies. We believe that all allergies should be taken seriously and dealt with in a professional and appropriate way.

By our actions we work proactively to:

  • Minimise the risk of exposure within the school setting
  • Encourage self-responsibility
  • Learn avoidance strategies
  • Have robust plans for an effective response to possible emergencies
  • Ensure inclusivity for all students

Claydon High School is clear about the need to actively support students with medical conditions, and consider what reasonable adjustments need to be made to enable these students to fully participate in school life. In consultation with parents/carers (and medical professionals if needed), Individual healthcare plans (IHPs) will be completed for students with serious allergies and medical conditions.

All of our staff complete annual training in allergy and anaphylaxis awareness, prevention and response. Please click to read our Allergy and Anaphylaxis Policy

We keep spare auto-injector emergency adrenaline pens in school. If your child carries one of these pens or has previously experienced a severe allergic reaction, we will ask you to ensure that we are aware and complete an Individual Healthcare Plan and a British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) Allergy Action Plan. Example plans can be found here: https://www.bsaci.org/resources/resources/paediatric-allergy-action-plans/
